LL - Lester Landry

BACKGROUND

Lester R Landry accused me of using my cell phone while driving in April 2023, the day after I posted an article about him fundraising for the 3rd time in less than 4 months for batteries for his mobility scooter. I pled not guilty and the trial was held in Medicine Hat on November 24. 2023 (I was found guilty and fined $300).

THE TRIAL

I took the opportunity to appear remotely as I’ve had very little experience with the justice system. I was nervous enough, being in the comfort of my own home made it less intimidating. Being there to report on court is one thing, actually speaking in court is another.

There’s also the fact that Landry assaulted my boss (Tom Fougere) in August. Landry used his mobility scooter to run over Tom’s foot and then Landry started throwing punches. Landry was served with a Peace Bond that he must abide by in regards to Tom but I have no such protection. I’ve heard too many horror stories from medical staff about people using mobility devices, not all of them are harmless or as helpless as they portray themselves to be. I wasn’t going to take any chances.

Tom also attended remotely, he took notes. We had our cameras off; nobody could see our faces when Landry went on his rant about Community TV. It was pretty hilarious for us to hear. We did find it strange that he was allowed to go off on the rant. Some of what he said was, for lack of a better word, weird.

Landry was asked how he recognized me.

“I was at a rally with her and her daughter in front of the Provincial Building in regards to her late husband's health condition.”

(The “rally” in 2019 consisted of my daughter, myself, a bunch of signs and the occasional passerby – Landry was one of them. It was the first time I met Tom, he was the only media that bothered to talk to me. Within a day that video had enough views that I received a call from the hospital; they wanted to make things better. Tom and I did not meet again until 2021 when I ran for council. He hired me in Spring 2022.)

“She was also a candidate for the Councillor in the last municipal election, she has been part of a relentless attack on me on social media, persecuting me, false accusations, and why would a normal person be driving by somebody to record him and then putting it on Facebook? There's more to this than just distracted driving. It borders on criminal harassment.“

(Yet he has never filed harassment charges.)

Landry was just getting started.

Crown “Okay. And can you just tell us about Community TV? Who operates that?”

LL I don't know his last name; his first name is Tom. It's kind of a quasi media outlet that is basically the National Enquirer of Medicine Hat, that's what it is. “

(As of Nov 29 2023 there are only 3 members of the media from Medicine Hat on these lists, Tom and I are 2 of them.)

“LL I mean, I was charged with an offense, a serious offense, and you know, CHAT TV would report it. That'd be it. Medicine Hat News would report it. That'd be it. “

(The offence was kidnapping. Again, neither of those media organizations are on the current Accredited Media list.)

”Community TV got a hold of it, and it was just relentless. It got to a point I couldn't order a pizza, I had to change veterinarians, I couldn't get a haircut, just on and on. It was, it was relentless. My tires were slashed, my van, my van was damaged. That's, that's the number one reason why I had to move to Lethbridge, and that cost me 20,000. That cost me close to $20,000.

I've been accused of embezzlement, I've been accused of laundering money. I've been insinuated that 'cause I was a truck driver that they should look at the Highway of Tears for the murders.

It was just unbelievable. The relentless for, for nine and a half months that I put up with this.”

The Facts

From Jan 1 - Nov 24 2023 Community TV posted 1177 times
27 of those posts were about Lester R Landry.

11 of those were posted in the first 2 weeks after the charges was laid.

Not once did Community TV reveal Landry’s address, he made it easy to find with his posts about where he walked his dog and this post about the elevation of his home.

Not once did Community TV tell anybody to harass Landry or damage his property.
I did post about his fundraising on multiple sites for the same thing back in January and February; February 1, he protected his tweets. His other social media disappeared as well for a while.

I discovered another fundraiser in April. Here’s something more recent.

Give Send Go Campaign

He currently has another 4 fundraisers on Give Send Go and another one on Go Fund Me. This does not count the ones he took down from earlier this year.
Landry admitted in court the move to Lethbrdge cost him close to $20,000.

Landry admitted on his Twitter account that he used $11,000 of the donated funds to buy himself an RV, something that he never explicitly asked for. (See pics)

Landry moved to Lethbridge after his attempt to set up his trailer locally was unsuccessful. Landry said he was told his trailer was too old to skirt in, it had also been vandalized.

Again, Community TV knew where the trailer was but we did not publish that info. We did not need to, Landry already posted it on his social media.

FYI - he is at a campground in Lethbridge, again he posts exactly where he is to his over 5000 followers. (NB - Just because someone follows him does not mean they support him, many just want to keep tabs on him.)

Note that he has no ramp but must climb stairs to get inside. He is obviously not completely wheelchair bound though he repeats that all the time.

I truly believe that Landry cannot walk very far without help.

I also truly believe he can walk a short distance and do real harm to somebody if he wanted to.

A person might need to use a wheelchair but it doesn’t mean they are confined to it.

Mobility aids can be used as weapons, just ask anybody who works in health care.
