Community Consultation
This is your chance to Speak Out and Speak Up!

The Medicine Hat Police Commission (MHPC) meetings are public, open to all. They do have a part called Community Consultation where the public is able to get up and speak.

(If you were not invited to the Oct 8 meeting regarding the Mustard Seed, this might be a good opportunity to ask Chief Murphy why.)

They Do Have Rules

You are typically allowed 2 minutes to address the Commission so keep it short.

“During the Public Consultation portion of the meeting agenda, citizens may pose questions or provide brief comments to the Commission directly.  Any questions forwarded to the Commission by the Friday preceding the meeting date will be addressed by the Commission during the Public Consultation session.  Questions from citizens in attendance that were not forwarded in advance will be allowed, however, responses may be deferred to a later date.

Questions from the public can be forwarded to the Chair of the Police Commission, Mr. Paul Carolan, at paul.carolan@mhpc.ca (email) or 403-502-8908 (phone). The written option is preferred as it provides the Police Commission ample time to research the question or concern to provide an informed response.

Please note that complaints about officer conduct and MHPS policies are not topics for this forum as there is a process under the Alberta Police Act for such matters. Ongoing investigations and personnel matters are not to be discussed in Open Meetings as per the provisions set out in the Alberta Police Act.”
