Former Medicine Hat mayor and city councillor Ted Clugston isn’t mincing his words when it comes to the current state of affairs at the municipality.
“There’s a dumpster fire burning here next door, it’s called City Hall,” said Clugston during an interview with the Medicine Hat Owl by the courthouse. “We need to call 911 and put it out immediately. The first hundred days as far as I’m concerned.”

At Tuesday’s council meeting, Medicine Hat resident Kristen Mann presented on behalf of CLUCK, a local advocacy group pushing for urban hen ownership within city limits. The proposal is simple but controversial: amend the city’s Land Use Bylaw to replace the word “chickens” with “roosters” in the definition of livestock. That change, Mann argued, would effectively allow hens to be kept as pets under existing bylaws while prohibiting noisy roosters.

Medicine Hat, AB The City of Medicine Hat’s Municipal Planning Commission (MPC) is set to deliberate on a significant land-use proposal during its meeting today at 1:30 p.m. in the Council Chambers.
The commission will review a tandem application for a property at 2055 Saamis Drive NW, involving both a Request for Decision on a rezoning bylaw and a concurrent development permit application to establish a combined Community Shelter, Community Social Service, and Community Food Service.
Councillor Wages Rise More Than 30 Per Cent Since 2021
City councillor’s will be getting a more than 13.7 per cent a year raise on top of a 16.5 per cent received over the past four years while maintaining yearly increases tied to inflation.
The more than 30 per cent increase over the past four years has seen part-time councillor wages rise from $45,476 to $52,977 this term and, starting in November, will go up to $60,236.
