2024 Community Satisfaction Survey Results Analysis

The results came back from the Community Satisfaction Survey for this year and it shows that Administration And Council are failing - miserably.

We can only compare how people are feeling today to 2022 and not previous years. Why is this? This is because 2022 was the very FIRST year a Community Survey was done in the City. It created the baseline.

This Council committed to measure community sentiment every 2 years.

2024 COMMUNITY SURVEY City of Medicine Hat

In both surveys, phone and online responses were tallied. Certain people were not allowed to participate - elected officials, city employees, households with a city employee or elected official, non-residents, etc. Details in the surveys.

Phone 400 responses, accurate to +/- 4.9%, 19 times out of 20

2022 - 70% cell phones, 30% landlines May 4-22

2024 - 95% cell phones, 5% landlines May 6-24

Online

Screening included multiple surveys from the same IP address. Because people self- selected to take the survey, it is not a random sampling. Therefore it is not considered representative of the general population and no accuracy statistics can be provided.

2022 - 245 accepted responses May 5-25

2024 - 450 accepted responses May 6-24

The number of online responses in 2024 could mean that

  • more people are engaged

  • more people have access to a computer

  • more people have access to the internet

  • the City just did a better job of advertising the online survey

It’s hard to decipher exactly why there are nearly twice as many online responses this year. Given the general amount of outrage, increase in FOIP requests etc, I think we can assume more people are engaged and interested in the goings-on at the Glass Palace.

Certain questions had open answers so people could add their own concerns/reasons for their responses. The questions had to be the same so they have something to compare to. Responses were compared to norms in the IPSOS database of Canadian cities in the past 5 years.

They have breakdowns as to what part of the City the responses are coming from.
