City releasing Some Election Numbers Late Tuesday

An estimated 90 per cent of votes for mayor have been counted, according to the Medicine Hat News who cited unnamed city officials Tuesday evening.

The Owl has yet to confirm the information independently nor has the city released such election data publicly.

If accurate, approximately 1,800 votes remain unaccounted in the mayoral race which incumbent Linnsie Clark current leads by 750 votes over Drew Barnes.

The last update on election returns in the mayoral race were released just prior to 2 am Tuesday morning with the city indicating no further results would be released prior to 9 am Wednesday.

As well, the estimated total vote turnout for the mayoral race would be 19,566, a slight downturn in votes cast for mayor in 2021 by about 230.

The News is also reporting 70 per cent of the vote for council has been counted.

The Owl has yet to confirm that information independently.

Based on 2021 results featuring just slightly more than 20,000 Hatters casting ballots and the similarity in the 2025 mayoral turnout, the Owl is estimating 6,000 votes have yet to be counted for councillor positions.
