Incumbent Mayor Linnsie Clark is leading in the polls over Drew Barnes by 750 votes as the second day of vote counting in the 2025 municipal election is set to begin.

Votes trickled in following Monday’s election with the first results for mayor giving Clark an early lead, one which she continued to hold as counting stopped shortly before 2 am Tuesday morning.

It was an election day which saw many polling stations lined up from the early afternoon right up to the polls closing at 8 pm and voters cramming their ballots into burgeoning boxes.

On the council side, Yusuf Mohammed is leading with the most votes so far, garnering more than 2,500 as of 2 am with former alderman and mayor Ted Clugston 250 votes behind in second place. Stuart Young and Chris Hellman following with 2,200 and 1,881 respectively.

But the race for the last four available council seats is far closer.

Cheryl Phaff, Bill Cocks, Kirsten Spek and Dan Reynish hold down those positions respectively with Phaff sitting at 1,295 votes and Reynish at 1,083.

Robert Dumanowski, Adam Koch, Brian Varga, Alison Van Dyke and Brock Hale are all within 150 votes of Reynish with the last two council seats switching hands multiple times over the course of Monday night.

While incumbent councillors Dumanowski and Van Dyke are still in the hunt to return to council, Shila Sharps will require a big boost in votes Tuesday to remain a viable contender as she is currently sitting at 503 votes.

Incumbent councillor Andy McGrogan is also unlikely to return to city hall as he is currently sitting in fourth place behind Kris Samraj in the mayoral race.

OwlNews.ca will have all the latest information as it comes in during the day.
