Barely two weeks after the election for trustees, the Medicine Hat Public School Division is announcing they will be holding public consultations next month on the proposal to close two city elementary schools.

Southview and Webster Niblock are both facing closure to “optimize resources and enhance programming” according to a release issued Thursday.

The decision comes in the wake of a review of city public schools conducted earlier this year, specifically on those with less than 200 students.

Public consultations will be held at the Public School Division Central Office on Dec. 3 and Dec. 4 for Southview Community and Webster Niblock respectively from 6:30 to 8 pm.

A transition plan will be shared if closures proceed with support beginning Jan. 12.

Webster Niblock students will be reassigned to either Vincent Massey or Ken Sauer while Southview students will be assigned to Crestwood or Ross Glen.
