Standoff in South Flats Ends with Arrest

An arrest has been executed following an at least two-and-a-half-hour standoff in the South Flats neighbourhood Sunday afternoon.

The incident started unfolding around 4 p.m. with a large police presence surrounding a home near the corner of Eighth Ave. and Ninth St. S.E.

At least five police vehicle were on scene along with city’s armoured tactical vehicle, an ambulance and fire truck with around a dozen MHPS personnel – some in tactical gear and armed with carbines – surrounding the home.

Police utilized a bullhorn stating that Brandon Aman is under arrest as they sought the surrender of the individual at the home.

Three city blocks off Kingsway Ave.  have been closed off.

One resident near the scene said police had issued a shelter in place order for those closest to the home.

A Medicine Hat resident named Brandon Aman does have a criminal record stretching back to 2017 which also included several weapons offences including those related to firearms.
