City Needs Workers For Historic Election by Sept 21

Chief Electoral Officer Andres Cardona Arias explaining the kangaroo ballots Sept 9 2025 at City Hall

The City now has set a record with 37 council candidates with possibly more to come - the nomination deadline is Monday, Sept 22 at noon. Since the provincial government mandated hand counting all ballots, this means that the city needs many more people to do the counting.

We heard from Chief Electoral Officer Andres Cardona Arias at a Community Conversations event last night downtown. Arias spoke to dozens of people including candidates and residents about the voting stations, voting opportunities and their need for people to work on election day. Arias told the crowd that while you must be a citizen to vote in this election you do not need to be one to count votes.

The City is looking for people to fill the following positions.

  • Poll Supervisor (Presiding Deputy Returning Officer)

  • Assistant Poll Supervisor (Assistant Supervising Officer)

  • Ballot Clerk (Deputy Returning Officer)

  • Registration Clerk (Registration Officer)

  • Counting Assistant
