The leader of the self-proclaimed Kingdom of Canada cult along with a member of its un-recognized aristocracy appeared before a Saskatchewan provincial court judge Friday seeking release on several criminal charges.
Romana Didulo, 50, as well as Ricky Lee Manz, 61 – who identify as the queen of Canada and chief of the world prosperity police respectively – made their court appearance in Swift Current following their second arrest in as many days.
On Wednesday, Didulo and Manz were swept up by police along with 14 other individuals following a raid on the cult’s Richmound, Sask. compound located 100 kilometres from Medicine Hat, just across the provincial boundary.
Both are facing criminal allegations including intimidation of a justice system participant or journalist.
If convicted of the indictable offence, both face a maximum 14-year penitentiary sentence.
Didulo and Manz were released on conditions not to contact one another but were rearrested Thursday on allegations of breaching those court-ordered restrictions.
During the pair’s Friday court appearance, they continued to make comments consistent with the cult’s pseudo-legal philosophy which has a unique interpretation and application of “natural law.”
Medicine Hat Owl publisher Thomas Fourgere has been the subject of the cult’s attention since it established itself in Richmound and was apparently the subject of a Didulo “royal decree” calling for his execution either by hanging or firing squad.
Didulo appeared to indicate that such a sentence would only be carried out following a trial held by the cult in its “natural law court.”
Fourgere has openly mocked the cult, its beliefs and members, however, he stated Friday he doesn’t suspect the criminal allegations pertain to him.
Didulo indicated she will represent herself during her bail hearing scheduled for Monday while Manz indicated he will be seeking to engage legal counsel.
