Meet Dutch, the Goodest Boi Who Deserves a Forever Sofa!
Dutch with his favourite dinosaur toy (check out the foster kitten top left). You can see Dutch is a little chonky.
Hello, friends! We’re spreading the word about a senior gentleman with a heart of gold. This is Dutch, and he’s looking for a quiet, loving home to be his final chapter - a chapter filled with naps, love, and maybe a sunbeam or two.
Dutch’s story is a sad one. His original owner went into long-term care, and this goodest boi has been through a few transitions since. What he needs now is stability: a "foster-to-adopt"or a straight-up forever adoption. He’s ready to trade uncertainty for your unconditional love.
Why Dutch is the Goodest Boi:
A Certified Cat & Kitten Companion! 🐱 He currently lives peacefully with two full-time cats and foster kittens. He’s a gentle giant with the littles!
People-Obsessed! Dutch is a true lover of humans. His current family is away too much for his social heart, and he thrives on companionship. He is great with children ages 3 and up. (He might be okay with younger kids but he has only been observed with children age 3 and up.)
Exceptional Recall! This boy listens amazingly well. His recall is rock-solid, even when he spots a deer! You can trust this goodest boi.
Polite & Easygoing! He lets you sleep in before needing a bathroom break and has no special dietary needs—just regular dog food.
9 Years Young & Fixed! He’s a mellow senior, past the puppy crazies and perfect for a quieter home.
A Quick Note on Canine Friends: We’ve been told he’s “not good with other dogs,” but the details are fuzzy. It may have been a single, misunderstood moment. It would be best to test this in a controlled situation before bringing him home. He’s clearly fantastic with felines!
The Perfect Home for Dutch: A calm, loving home where someone is around more often than not. A home with minimal stairs would be ideal for him, as he has a little arthritis (common for senior pups!). It just means he does a cute squat to pee and would prefer to avoid steep steps or stairs without risers. He has no problems with the concrete steps in the front of his current home. He certainly doesn’t jump up on people. Other than that, he's a healthy, happy boi looking to be your loyal, low-drama, affectionate shadow.
Location: Medicine Hat, AB.

Here’s the backstory.
Last September, my daughter Kelci discovered that Dutch was going to be euthanized so she agreed to foster him temporarily until the owner’s family found Dutch a “Furever Home”. Unfortunately, the family has not responded to recent attempts at communication.
(Yes, she was probably too trusting - if there is a next time, she will get a written agreement.)
Dutch is a senior dog and will likely live less than 2 more years. Right now, Dutch is left alone at home while Kelci works. This is not an ideal way to spend his golden years. Again, this was supposed to be temporary. Kelci has a bad ankle and will be getting another surgery soon. Dutch needs a Furever Home, not another temporary one. Kelci will keep him as long as necessary but he deserves a better life.
I can personally attest to his sweetness - he is adorable and loving with amazing recall ability. I stop in to let him out when Kelci has to go out of town. One day we were walking in the unfenced backyard when he spotted some deer across the alley - he started to head towards them but came back immediately when I called him.
I am a virtual stranger and he obeyed my command.
That is very rare, so many dogs are poorly trained.
He is loving but not annoying, he listens when he is told to go lay down. He really has no bad habits - no chewing, no slobbering, no incontinence, no barking for no good reason and he has never tried to eat any of the foster kittens. As for the deer, I think he just wanted to go say hi but I never gave him the chance.
