Mission Statement
The South Alberta News United Bureau exists to strengthen independent journalism across southern Alberta by supporting fearless reporting, public accountability, and the free exchange of information.
Our mission is to investigate, document, and publish stories that matter to the communities of southern Alberta—stories often overlooked by corporate media or constrained by political influence.
We believe that journalism is a public service. Through collaboration with independent reporters, citizen journalists, and local communities, we aim to create a resilient news network dedicated to transparency, truth, and the protection of democratic discourse.
The Bureau operates as a nonprofit organization committed to editorial independence, public trust, and the principle that access to reliable information is essential to a free society.
Purpose
The organization exists to:
Support independent journalism and investigative reporting.
Provide a collaborative newsroom environment for freelance and community journalists.
Publish public-interest reporting concerning regional issues including governance, environment, industry, and community affairs.
Preserve and document the social and political record of southern Alberta.
Promote media literacy and journalistic training within local communities.
Activities
The Bureau may:
Publish investigative reports and public-interest journalism.
Maintain a newsroom or collaborative reporting network.
Host community forums and press briefings.
Provide editorial guidance and resources for independent reporters.
Conduct research and archive public records.
Develop partnerships with educational institutions, journalists, and media organizations.
Governance
The organization shall be governed by a Board of Directors responsible for oversight, financial stewardship, and ensuring adherence to the mission.
Editorial decisions shall remain independent of board influence to preserve journalistic integrity.
Editorial Independence
The Bureau maintains strict editorial independence from political parties, corporate influence, and government entities.
Nonprofit Status
All revenues and donations shall be used solely to advance the mission of the organization. No profits shall be distributed to members or directors.
Public Benefit
The Bureau exists for the public benefit and commits to providing accessible reporting and information to communities throughout southern Alberta.
