Voting Day: Polls Open 10 AM To 8 PM
Today is voting day with polls opening at 10 am and close at 8 pm at 10 polling stations dotted around the city.
After an unprecedented tumultuous four-year council term with an equally rare size of candidates vying to serve in the next, one of the few unique things left in this election would be a tie.
But solving the latter issue – picking a name out of a hat – will be the least difficult problem to work out for a city with a pile of them.
Results are anticipated to begin to be posted shortly after polls closing and will continue to 2 am Tuesday morning. If vote counting is not complete within that time period, counting will resume during business hours on Tuesday.
All eligible voters – 18 years old, Canadian citizen, Hatter – will be, at minimum, required to present valid government photo ID with the voters’ name with exceptions.
If an eligible voter is not on the list of electors, that photo ID will also be required to have a voter’s address as well.
Voters who do not have valid photo ID can present a utility bill, home lease, government benefit statement or cheque stub, bank statement or personal cheque, pension plan statement, insurance policy with the electors’ name and address.
Electronic versions of those documents will be accepted.
A letter or attestation form confirming a voters’ address issued by an authorized representative of a property management company, correctional institute, First Nations band, post-secondary institution, homeless services organization or supportive living facility will also be accepted.
If none of those options are available, a person who is eligible to vote and is on the list of electors and who knows the voter can vouch for them and other members of that individual’s household.
Results are official once finalized at noon on Oct. 24.
