Downtown Medicine Hat Pellet Gun Incident

A troubling act of violence was reported in downtown Medicine Hat earlier this month, when outreach volunteers say a truck drove past and fired a pellet or BB gun toward them and members of the city’s unhoused community.
The incident occurred around 8:20 p.m. on October 2, near the 400 block of 3rd Street SE, according to both a Medicine Hat Police Service (MHPS) news release and accounts from outreach workers who were on the scene.
CCTV footage from the area shows a dark-blue pickup truck driving through the block at that time. The image — grainy and blurred — shows a four-door pickup with chrome running boards, chrome wheel trim, and bright headlights. Its make and model remain unconfirmed; MHPS has described it as a “navy-blue Ford F-150 extended cab”, but that identification has not been independently verified.
“This was not random,” says outreach leader
Geraldine — a local community advocate and elder known to many downtown as “Kookum Geraldine” — published a statement online the day after the incident describing what she called a “targeted attack.”
According to her account, volunteers with the Eagle Team Patrol, a grassroots street outreach group that distributes food, supplies, and harm-reduction materials, were serving people downtown when the truck approached.
“Inside were a male and female pair who opened fire with a pellet gun,” Geraldine wrote.
“Among our team was a child. A volunteer blocked the child and took several shots to the head and buttocks. She is okay, but shaken.”
Geraldine’s post described the incident as an example of ongoing harassment faced by the city’s unhoused residents and those who assist them, calling for public compassion and political accountability.
“Our street community endures this kind of hatred weekly—sometimes daily,” she wrote.
“They are harassed, humiliated, and harmed. And the world looks away.”
Police confirm investigation; seek public assistance
The Medicine Hat Police Service confirmed that a report has been filed and that investigators are seeking information about the vehicle and its occupants.
In a public release, MHPS said:
“The Medicine Hat Police Service is requesting public assistance to identify two individuals involved in an incident where witnesses reported a BB gun being discharged from a vehicle toward people in the downtown core.”
Police described the suspects as a male and female, both appearing to be Caucasian and in their early twenties, and asked anyone with information to contact Sgt. Brian Bohrn at 403-594-0638.
The statement also noted that similar incidents may have occurred previously.
Verification challenges and what’s known
Owl News reviewed one still frame from the CCTV footage associated with the incident. The image shows:
A dark-coloured pickup with chrome side steps and wheel-arch trim.
Four doors visible, suggesting either a crew cab or extended cab design.
Motion blur and headlight glare that obscure manufacturer emblems and the licence plate.
Without clearer imagery, the make and model of the truck cannot be confirmed.
Multiple pickup brands from the early-2000s to mid-2010s share similar profiles — including Ford F-150s, Chevrolet Silverados, and GMC Sierras.
So, Jordan Patterson thinks this is a joke? Or does he actually condone violence based on tax contribution?
