Grad Dress Mess Update - Dresses Released by One Designer, Others Likely to Follow

On April 18 2025, The Medicine Hat Owl broke the story of The Great Grad Gown Grift which detailed the problems that grads (and brides) were having in getting their dresses from Magic Moments Bridal (MMB).

The Medicine Hat Owl has just received more information from our super secret source. Designer Calla Blanche is releasing the dresses from the following collections.

Calla Blanche
Blanc Calla Blanche
L’Amour Calla Blanche
La Perle
Angela and Alison

Anybody who bought a dress from one of the above collections from MMB can call or e-mail Durand Bridal in Calgary. If you contact them by e-mail, they can respond after hours.

Owner Karla Clute has apparently not followed through with payment arrangements so some designers are releasing the dresses. It is very likely that more will be releasing dresses in the coming days.

The Story Quickly Blew Up - Bridal Shops and Designers Contacted Us Directly

On April 26 2025 The Medicine Hat Owl received this message from AMARRA

Hi Tom...

I saw that you are covering this story. If there is anything we can do to help, please let us know.

We commented the following on your post:

AMARRA is one of the leading designer dress companies for graduation dresses in Canada. We were a vendor for Magic Moments. Unfortunately, they have refused to pay us for the gowns, despite months of communication (email and phone). Each time, they promised payment for customer dresses, but it was never fulfilled. The gowns have been at our warehouse for months, ready to ship.

We recommend customers reach out to their credit card company and local authorities to assist in obtaining a refund. If you need any evidence, please feel free to email us at info@amarra.com. We would be happy to assist all affected customers.

If you ordered an AMARRA gown, please email us — we can assist you in securing your gown through another authorized retailer.

Best Regards,

Kunal

The Facebook Group EMERGENCY GRAD DRESS for Medicine Hat & Area received the following messages.

Hi everyone! I’m Shar, co-owner of Oksana’s South.

We’ve recently partnered with AMARRA to help fulfill special orders that were left unpaid by Magic Moments. After speaking with some affected clients, they suggested we join this group to offer support and solutions to anyone still hoping to get their original dress—or a new one altogether.

We’ve discovered that many of our prices are 30–100% lower than what clients were charged in Medicine Hat.

At Oksana’s South, we carry over 6,000 dresses, ranging from $300 to $1,000, and we’ve already purchased many of the unfulfilled AMARRA orders. These dresses will be arriving in our store next week!
