Man Scales Finlay Bridge Superstructure - Spuderman Disappointed

This morning, a member of the public was observed climbing on the superstructure of Finlay bridge, heading north from downtown. While we understand some people are drawn to thrill-seeking or need a quiet place to think, it’s important to remember: climbing bridge infrastructure is illegal, dangerous, and potentially life-threatening.

Under Alberta’s Trespass to Premises Act and federal laws protecting critical infrastructure, unauthorized access to public infrastructure like bridges can lead to fines, criminal charges, or worse—serious injury or death.

Bridges are not built for pedestrian climbing. One wrong step can result in a fatal fall. These structures also carry vibration, noise, and high winds—conditions that can disorient or destabilize even experienced climbers.

This isn’t about blame or punishment. It’s about safety—and compassion.

If you or someone you know is feeling overwhelmed, isolated, or is looking for a place to clear their head:

📞 Mental Health Helpline (Alberta): 1-877-303-2642

📞 Kids Help Phone: 1-800-668-6868 or text CONNECT to 686868

📞 Hope for Wellness Help Line (for Indigenous people): 1-855-242-3310

Please talk to someone. You are not alone. Your life matters—to your community, to your friends, to your future.

If you ever witness someone in a situation that looks unsafe on public infrastructure, do not approach them directly. Instead, call local authorities so trained responders can help.

Let’s keep each other safe.

Let’s talk about mental health.

Let’s care out loud.
