Clark Announces Re-Election Bid

Mayor Linnsie Clark is announcing her bid for re-election joining incumbent councillors Andy McGrogan, Shila Sharps and Robert Dumanowski seeking to return to city hall.

“Despite challenges, we have made meaningful progress in strengthening our community, supporting local families and businesses, and planning for the future,” stated Clark in a Friday morning media release. ““Our work is not finished. Many of the goals we set out together remain ahead of us, and I am determined to see them through.”

Clark’s term has been dominated by dysfunction, punctuated by a municipal inspection report which concluded city hall was being run in an irregular, improper and improvident manner.

That report concluded Clark’s actions as mayor was a large part of that dysfunction.

In Clark’s media release announcing her re-election bid, she highlighted her accomplishments over the past four years.

Those include development of a plan for a regional economic strategy, review of the energy business, additional disclosure of financial information and launching the Energy Innovation Challenge, a $850,000 program promoting energy transition.

“My vision is a Medicine Hat that is prosperous, innovative, safe, and welcoming for everyone,” stated Clark in her release. “With the continued support of our residents, I know that, together, we can build on the progress we’ve made and complete the work we started together.”

Coun. McGrogan announced his candidacy for mayor last month while councillors Sharps and Dumanowski were official put on the ballot earlier this week.

McGrogan told CHAT News in April 2024 that he had, “no intention of running for mayor.”

In her Facebook announcement regarding her re-election bid, Sharps stated, “we’ve achieved so much over the past four years,” without citing specifics.

Dumanowski has not provided a copy of his media release for his re-election bid to the Medicine Hat Owl.
