Council Holds Closed Meeting, No Decision On “Personnel Matter”

Medicine Hat city council closed its special council meeting held Monday shortly after it began with no substantive vote recorded on the “personnel issue” discussed during the more than two-hour session.

This is the third special council meeting held since July 25 to discuss a “personnel issue” and which followed public release of a critical municipal inspection report.

That report was highly critical of Mayor Linnsie Clark, councillors and senior administration leadership and concluded the city was being run in an “irregular, improper and improvident” manner.

The second of the three recent special council meetings held on July 28 held an “open session” virtually which the public was not notified about until after it occurred, could not access, nor recordings provided as per city bylaw.

That meeting resulted in two votes being recorded; suspension of city manager Ann Mitchell and launching an investigation.
