$tay Free Alberta, Mitch Sylvestre’s new website can accept $4,600 donations, the total must not exceed $572,000. Dr. Dennis Modry says they had to make a separate entity from their thing with lawyer Jeffry Rath, The Alberta Prosperity Project. They used to tour Alberta with a boy named Tanner Hnidey. Never heard of them? They are the heart of Alberta separatism. Freedom lovers. Modry needs a little over 177,000 signatures on his petition… what happens after that is very unclear. The first draft of the website said you’d have to sign a non-disclosure agreement with Stay Free Alberta, that’s requirement has since been quietly nixed. (remember, it’s not “#Stayfree” those are maxi-pads.) The trio, sometimes accompanied by a boy named Tanner, have been doing “APP Town Halls” all over Alberta. We met them in Redcliff last year. I wanted to give a little info on the folks behind the organizations and petitions that are making an effort to push Alberta Separatism with a dash of possible Statehood. A lawyer under sanctions who seems to stretch the truth, even in his own bio about successful court cases, taking credit for jobs he got fired from. A doctor, who pioneered some open-heart surgery stuff 20 years ago, and since retied, and had his license to practice revoked over covid conspiracies. A gun store owner too! That’s healthcare, law, and military top brass! (And a boy named Tanner)
The Lawyer: Jeffry Rath (Laughing at Mitch’s Maxi-pad plan)
Jeff Rath He’s been a public advocate for Alberta considering independence or even U.S. statehood, appearing on Fox News and other media to argue Alberta might join the U.S. as its 51st state or otherwise break from Ottawa. In 2025, the Law Society of Alberta reprimanded Rath for breaches of professional standards related to earlier litigation, finding he delayed transferring client materials and misrepresented his status as counsel to the court. He was ordered to pay costs. More recently, he was the subject of new citations alleging various forms of unprofessional conduct, including claims he:
threatened criminal charges, including murder, to benefit a client,
sent correspondence to opposing parties who were represented, and
communicated discourteously or offensively. Law Society of Alberta
These allegations are part of ongoing Law Society proceedings and have not all been adjudicated. (Owl news has contacted the tribunal and will attend the virtual hearing to see the outcome)
Dr. Dennis Modry is not allowed to practice medicine anymore. He drives a Merceds Benz.
Dr. Dennis Modry has had a Legal Battle With Alberta Health Services (AHS). His Major lawsuit accusing AHS of plotting against him didn’t work out… But he got paid to NOT WORK.
Modry sued Alberta Health Services and several senior physicians/administrators for more than $6 million, alleging they conspired to restrict and eventually suspend his surgical privileges. He claimed AHS produced false and misleading reports about his surgical outcomes and mortality rates to push him out.
AHS successfully got a stay, and the Court of Appeal sided with concerns about his professionalism and unresolved safety issues, keeping him suspended.
Early in the dispute, Modry was being paid about $20,000 per week while not operating — which in public discourse became a symbol for “paid not to practice.” Yahoo News

Mitch said Alberta’s Pensioners were basically like jews in the holocaust, and that the feds are the Nazis. Even his totally based crowd of freedom lovers groaned at his extreme analogy. It was weird. He also owns a gun store and has been a UCP grassroots supporter for a long time. He set up the phone call where Pastor Arthur Palowski recorded Premiere Danielle Smith Making claims about her power to sway the courts. In case you weren’t sure; that’s not her job, and kinda wrong - she was punished for it, albeit nothing much more than an apology. But it just shows her most extreme supporters are willing to stab her in the back at any moment for their own personal gain, protection from persecution, or even vengeance. Everyone loves a vengeful Pastor, right?

And finally, we have Tanner Hnidey. I sat next to his girlfriend in the front row at the APP “town hall” in Redcliff. I joked to her that he was wearing her boots (they had some lift and a feminine style, totally departing from his “Young Safari Preacher” vibe.) She told me something about how he had stepped in a puddle and he had to wear her boots… She had some sandal slips on. I don’t know much about this guy, other than that I prefer his bass playing and talent show performances much more than his “snake-handler alter boy” act. Although I’m certain the latter pays more.
He’s so strange that I’m fairly certain I’ll end up on a phone call with him soon enough, and he will tell me all about his political science degree.

Tanner Hnidey and his brother, sibling duo absolutely torched the stage. If you read all the way down to here, you have to watch The Boy play. Remind him he is young and talented. There is no need for him to play the Kaven Desjardins roll in this Romana-like cosplay. The parallels I am starting to draw between Cult Queen Romana Didulo and the “Sovereign, free and independent Alberta (with the British flag in our logo) That wanna join Trump’s USA and become the 51st daterape-state AKA Epstein Highland” people are both hilarious and frightening at the same time.
