In-Custody Death at City Jail

One individual has died while in custody at the Medicine Hat Remand Centre, the provincial ministry of public security has confirmed.

An individual who asked not to be identified informed the Owl of two drug overdose cases at the city jail with one being fatal.

A statement from the Ministry of Public Safety and Emergency Services confirmed a death at the remand centre.

In a statement to the Owl, the ministry indicated, “on Feb. 25, an inmate at the Medicine Hat Remand Centre died following a medical emergency.

“Information related to inmate deaths is made public through the fatality inquiry process.”

The name of the deceased has not been released.
